During the 1980s, the Mesquite Golf Course was built with 600 surrounding condos, following the trend of the time. However, with the waning interest in golf, the property changed ownership several times. Over the past five years, the demand for developing the golf course property into a condominium location has increased. The land and its wildlife were soon to be at the mercy of builders.
However, in the summer of 2022, Oswit Land Trust (OLT) was able to purchase the property thanks to a generous contribution from Brad Prescott. OLT has since begun the process of transforming the property into a stunning nature preserve.
“I have always wanted to save land,” said Prescott. “When I met Jane and was introduced to Oswit Land Trust, I finally found a way that I could make my interest in saving land become a reality. Jane took me on a bike ride to show me the golf course properties and I immediately saw her vision. It will be incredible to see a beautiful nature preserve instead of construction and more houses.”
Bird watchers will find the Prescott Preserve particularly interesting. Many unusual birds–including owls, woodpeckers, and hummingbirds–have been spotted on the property. We have even seen some of these unusual birds dipping their beaks into our pool. The juxtaposition of the modern lines of the home with awe-inspiring nature is something to admire.
